Melissa Alves
CFO
Melissa joined Sigma Partners in 2003. She brings to the firm over 25 years of business, accounting and financial management experience from both venture capital and public accounting firms. She leads Sigma’s Finance team, and oversees the financial reporting for the firm’s investment funds, portfolio company financings, as well as the day-to-day management of firm-wide finance, accounting, legal and regulatory compliance matters.
Background
Melissa has worked in the venture capital industry since 1995. Previously, Melissa spent five years at Weiss, Peck and Greer Venture Partners, where she held the positions of chief financial officer and senior vice president. Prior to joining Sigma Partners, Melissa also served as chief financial officer and administrative partner at Blacksmith Capital Partners, where she was a member of the founding team. Earlier in her career, Melissa was a senior manager in the audit practice at Ernst & Young, LLP in both Toronto and San Francisco. While at Ernst & Young, Melissa provided audit and business advisory services to private and public companies, with a focus on financial services clients.
Education
Melissa holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation, and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO). Melissa also hold a B.A. in Honors Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (London, Canada).
